New Band Member

Elaine Anderson who played viola on the CD and has played live with us on several occasions, has become a full time member of Wear That Shoe. Its pretty cool to have someone who is not only an accomplished violinist but can cover mandolin and guitar parts as well. We will be posting some more information about Elaine on the website in the future.

WTS In Mexico

In September of 2005, several members of Wear That Shoe visited the ministries that we support in Mexico. All of these ministries are supported by "For Love Of A Child" the parent ministry. The first stop was the Alpha and Omega school in Acuna. This school has 7th, 8th, and 9th grades and teaches a christian curriculum. The really cool thing about this school is that before Alpha and Omega was started in 2003, kids in this area of Acuna did not have a secondary school available to them. From what we could see the kids were excited to be there and highly motivated. Many of them ride their bikes for several miles to get there every day. We played a few songs for them and Seth had some encouraging words to say. We had a great time meeting the kids and look forward to our next visit.

After that we went on to Piedras Negras where we visited Pastor Paulino Esquival. This guy has a lot going on. He was pretty excited to show us what God has been doing in the various ministries that he is involved in. He showed us several ways that God would bring people and contributions in to help build his church and a health clinic for the poor. We heard story after story about how people would show up out of nowhere and simply say that God told them to donate this or that. A contractor from New Orleans who was displaced by Hurricane Katrina volunteered to stay and help build the new building that will house the orphanage.

The orphanage is another story. Pastor Paulino and his wife run the orphanage, which takes care of special needs children, out of their home. (Thats why they really need a new building). There are 22 kids and adults there with a staff of 6 to take care of them. Many need diapers and help eating, as well as constant supervision. We stayed there in the Pastor's living room for a while visiting and just being blown away by the level of commitment and care that we saw. These kids were just thrown away by society and would have nothing in life were it not for the orphanage.

Our friend Uel Jackson from Sabinal was on hand to video the whole trip. Because of his work we were able to put together a DVD that features the band and the various ministries that we support. We hope to offer the finished product on the website soon. So far it has proven to be an effective tool for soliciting donations for the ministry.
